The Cause of the Day is....

horse, absurd
A coworker was talking about purchasing a box of "Cookies for a Cause" because she wanted to know what the cause was. I pointed out that they usually print the cause on the outside of the box in order to entice people to buy, and she could have just turned the box over. I mean, it's not like there's a surprise cause inside the box, like the decoder rings you got in cracker jacks.

Though, that could be a fun marketing gimmick. You open up your box of organic, evaporated cane juice sweetened, free trade cacao chocolate chip cookies, and there's a note inside: "Congratulations! Today you are supporting Greenpeace!" "The cause of the day is cancer research!" "Thank you for supporting drought proof seed research to stop world hunger!"

I'm totally in love this idea.

Yesterday at the farmer's market, I splurged on a preplanted herb garden containing parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme, and two kinds of basil. Bit more than the planted sets that TJ's carries, but mine hasn't had this blend for a while, but definitely worthwhile. I know I'll use it.

Next up is a mixed pot of mint... the way [info]lokmer uses it for Indian and Greek food, having a renewable source of it just outside the door would be incredibly valuable.

Random comments about luggage which might be carried by other Gallifreyans we have met?

ETA: Since you've asked... for the Doctor, presume Ten. For Romana, presume the Second (Lalla Ward).

You know those mood face charts with all the different expressions with "happy," "sad," irritable" and a dozen other random emotional states written underneath the faces?

There needs to be a Vulcan version, with a bunch of identical, totally stoic, eyebrow raised Spock faces with different "moods" underneath - except for "Pon Farr," which would have a very tiny, self-satisfied smirk.

I may have to make this.

In the end, it's all about the man-love.

(man-vulcan, anyways)

Still haven't seen new Star Trek movie. I was sick opening night, been busy ever since. Probably getting into "after Memorial Day." now. I'm such a bad Trekkie. :(

House on Hulu time
*snort* cut for spoilers )

Funny thing... I mentioned to the dude earlier this week that I may have to watch the entire fall season of Masterpiece Theater on tv this year because of the new host.

He asked, "Stewart or Tennant?"

It could have been Fry or McKellan. Just sayin.

I've started (and restarted) exercising multiple times in my life, but this spring I've actually kept it up past the point - usually a few weeks into it - that I get very exhausted and sore and fall ill with whatever seasonal virus is going around. Vanity initated the exercise kick, but the dedication comes from getting the news from my dad that there's a family history of silent heart attacks. Which he's known about for, like, 20 years when he got his first EKG, but only mentioned two weeks ago. *headdesk*

Not dying is a very good motivator.

Though, I have to say, nothing counters the "I can still do it tomorrow" better than "must fit Con costume in a month!"

(which is now acheived. Woo hoo!)

If only I can apply that sort of deadline logic to my second/third fingerless glove, the eight other knitting projects in various stages of not-finished, sound editing, and writing...

Something Happened Yesterday

Yesterday, when I saw the news about Maine and D.C. and same-sex marriage, something occurred to me for the first time since Massachusetts started it all.

The generation being born right now - my nieces and my friends' kids - will come of age to a world where gay marriage is normal and legal.

This is not the same world it was five years ago. And for once, looking at what twenty years from now might look like can actually be called looking forward.
